The Best Of San Diego’s Beaches
30 Mar
Water. Sand. Surf. Sun. Fun. You’ll find all of these in San Diego. The beaches here are more than just a strip of sand dividing the water from the land. For residents and visitors alike, the beaches are the lifeblood, the defining aspect of San Diego itself. Here are the top 3 beaches on our list. Each one is definitely worth visiting. Sunscreen is a must.
La Jolla Reefs
Visitors to La Jolla Reefs can still appreciate the natural beauty of this area, which is composed of powerfully pounding surf, tide pools teeming with miniature sea life, peaceful bays, and the endless sparkling ocean. The area’s coves are perfect for snorkeling, especially on summer days. Marine Street Beach is the prettiest beach in San Diego, but not many people know this. Access to the beach is almost impossible to find for those who are not familiar with the area. Mostly locals and teenagers hang out here. Finding the place is definitely worth it, though, as it has the whitest sand and its wicked shore break known as the ‘womp’. If your looking for a dentist in San Diego, your bound to have luck here.
Coronado Municipal Beach
Perhaps you are already familiar with Coronado. The Travel Channel has consistently named this beach as one of the finest in the country. It has the perfect setting–picturesque to the point of being a bit surreal. Nowhere else will you find a beach that’s friendly for the whole family, has wide spaces, and is clean all throughout. Feast your eyes on turn-of-the-century mansions that face the ocean, defiantly withstanding the onslaught of wind and surf. Lifeguards patrol the area, and this is one place that has an easy access to upscale dining places in the vicinity. Parking spaces tend to fill up quickly on holidays and weekends. Make an early trip to avoid the crowds.
Solana Beach
The challenge of accessing Solana Beach is what qualified it for our list. The landscape here is convoluted, with cliffs hugging the water’s edge. The only way to get to the beaches is through staircases that are provided at every street corner. The adventure begins with your choice of staircase. Once you descend, you might find yourself a nice secluded spot where you can be alone with your good friends. Or perhaps the staircase you choose will lead you to a beach where surfers congregate. Or it could be a spot where a family has gathered for a seaside picnic. Perhaps, you want to find a spot where you can see local fishermen dividing their day’s catch. See, each choice is definitely a surprise.
