Touring San Diego

Decisions. Decisions. When in San Diego, you will find that it is quite difficult to decide what stuff to do or places to see during your vacation. San Diego is home to so many local attractions and amazing beaches. Compounding the problem of planning your vacation itinerary is the fact that San Diego is a sun-kissed city pulsating with the vibe of social and cultural activities happening daily.
Although you may not be able to see and sample everything that San Diego has to offer during your vacation, this post will help you out in selecting the highlights of your stay. Most stops are ideal for the whole family and don’t forget to bring your camera.
What’s a vacation to San Diego if you can’t have a first-hand experience of SeaWorld? Catch shows featuring Shamu, the resident orca (killer whale, if you are more comfortable with that), as well as other fun-filled activities that allow you and the rest of the family to interact, observe, and appreciate the inhabitants of the marine world. Extend your encounters with wildlife by getting guided tours to both the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park to see exotic animals and observe firsthand their behaviors.
If you prefer a less nature-oriented tour, why not head over to LEGOLAND? This is where “everyone in the family becomes a hero.” With over sixty shows, rides and other attractions, you and the whole family will truly be entertained for the day. Things that you must absolutely try at LEGOLAND are the coaster rides (there are specific coasters for kids of all ages); StarWars Miniland (opening on March 31st); and the Granny Apple Fries (a dessert dish, i.e., sliced apples fried coated with cinnamon sugar).
Downtown area is an ideal place for observing the rich cultural diversity of San Diego. The city’s downtown serves as proof to dedicated urban development that created the sophisticated and progressive center of commerce and entertainment. Luxury hotels abound in the area. Let the shopaholic in you take the reins of your tour through shops, boutiques, and other retail establishments.
Of course, what would a vacation in San Diego be if you can’t visit the beaches? The beaches are the way of life for many locals. It defines the very existence of many residents. Here, you are welcome to surf, swim, sail, or sunbathe. Since 2008, alcohol is no longer allowed on the city’s beaches. Still you can savor an after-swim cocktail at any of the bars and restaurants open for business along the shoreline.
These must-see vacation spots are but the tip of the sandbar. There are other exciting places to see and stuff to do. As always, keep your camera’s batteries fresh because interesting sites abound. Also, be sure to pack a bottle of sunscreen, too.
